I am now more convinced than ever that indeed we are all on a journey – an individualised search – a unique kind of an earthly expedition that is full of power and meaning. It is just that somewhere along the way we create a few self-serving perceptions. The challenge with these perceptions is that they complicate the expedition because once created they have the ability to self-alter. So they shift. And this shift inevitably leads to a sense of loss. Like a stooping mirage these perceptions keep on moving, they continually evolve to take on different forms, shapes and sizes yet the overall motive stays the same: the search for light.
As soon as we step into the realm of these perceptions we encounter darkness; and we get perplexed. At this point we try to step out. We get possessed by a temporary temptation of giving up. We say “perhaps I am on the wrong track”, “perhaps I am deluded” or “perhaps I am on my own”. Nonetheless, a deep recurring sense of a truthful commitment to the initial mission never leaves us – it persists, it insists – in the most loving and gentle manner. So we determinedly press on! We persistently search; we relentlessly seek – except we do it aimlessly and haphazardly. And further down the line despairingly we stop.
We realize that a pointless rummage wastes no one’s time but ours.
We hesitantly take a figurative foot off the ground and confidently reach forward. But before we rest the very foot on the ground we swiftly summon it back. We pause. At this point we find that lingering is equally exhausting and futile, so we quickly give-in to the physical, the material – things which are not durable. It is at this point that the universal motive takes charge and we run out of choices and options – an incredibly mighty force of nature pulls us. And reluctantly on wobbly feet we seek solace.
We hopefully and fearfully wait.
Then something happens. A sudden realization overwhelms us as we realize that there is no “along the way”. Abruptly we realize that every step counts, every action matters, each deed adds up. Then with neither conviction nor certainty, we submit. With neither power nor strength, we succumb. With neither purpose nor will, we surrender. Only stillness exists. We wonder which way to go, which way to look.
It is at this point that we gain just a sufficient amount of strength to stand, not on our own feet but on hope. It is at this very point that we begin to learn to lean firmly on trust. We actually start slowly but surely to gain a fair balance of faith and belief; we truly and gradually open up to a huge amount of trust and finally concede to the fact that we shall indeed be saved from our poor mortal selves. It is at this point that we acknowledge that the goal is actually within therefore not only reachable but also achievable. It is at this point that we realize that the bumpy chilly journey was one that had to be – its intention pure and perfect, hence it never gave up but it brought us to where we are.
We warmly embrace the fact that we have been in the arms of angels therefore we should not have spent our lives in fear or hesitation. We tenderly accept that we are at an incredible space that is beyond words, feelings or thoughts.
It is at this point that it really dawns on us that all we have to do is take a gentle step towards life.
It is at this point that we begin to value the life that we have always been meant to savour.
It is at this point that we wake up – we open our eyes, our hearts, our minds, our souls.
It is at this point that we realize who we really are: Light: . . . !
