\nNomia Machebe, a dynamic multi-skilled individual who holds a Master\u2019s degree in Public Communications from University of Westminster in Britain is not a self-motivated professional who values excellence and quality, but she also has a vast and varied experience in both the public and private sectors. This  driven person possesses an incredibly passionate verve for developing implementable communications strategies, practical stakeholder relations and media liaison plans. Machebe is not afraid of exploring new environments.  Actually, she is one person who truly takes it in her stride whenever she is thrown a curve ball.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nSoon after completing her postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom – a place she fondly holds memories of, in spite of blisteringly cold and snowy winters – she worked as a Communications and Media Studies lecturer at the South Essex College<\/span><\/a> (UK) before returning to Cape Town to join Old Mutual<\/span><\/a> as a Communications Consultant. <\/a><\/span>She later moved to Gauteng to lead the external communications relations of the Development Bank of Southern Africa<\/span><\/a> where she cemented her expertise by coordinating media relations within South African borders as well as liaised with a number of dynamic stakeholders in Southern African Development Community countries (SADC) such as Lesotho, Swaziland, Zambia and the Republic of Tanzania.  She also played a key role in getting positive publicity for the DBSA\u2019s Knowledge Management conference in Kenya in 2007.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nIn 2007, this globe-trotter joined Wisdom Keys Group<\/span><\/a> (WKG) as a Business Unit Director of its Public Relations (PR) wing where she strategically managed the communications and public relations activities of the South African Post Office, Department of Transport, Cradle of Humankind and Multi-Choice.  In 2008, she was nominated a member of the WKG Foundation<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>a Section 21 not-for-profit Company, whose aim is to provide financial assistance to Previously Disadvantaged Individuals (PDIs) by providing access to knowledge and skills through either formal studies or mentorship programmes often coupled with well-needed work experience.<\/span><\/div>\n

\nHer appointment as Managing Director of Blackmagic Communications<\/span><\/a> (BMC) in 2009 was a significant milestone as it gave her the opportunity to gain further Management experience.  This period exposed her to the complex yet nurturing environment of leading a team of diverse and experienced individuals. During her tenure at BMC, Machebe mastered the art of multitasking. It is this art, combined with her consummate ability to embrace cultural diversity, that she believes was crucial in her success in running BMC, where she carried the responsibility of developing and strengthening a diverse team of talented media specialists, launching a new business proposition for the company, providing strategic direction to clients, managing business resources, liaising with external stakeholders as well as formulating and leading the execution of communications plans for the Gauteng Motorsport, Gauteng Partnership Fund, National Tourism Careers Expo (NTCE) and Tshwane 2010 Office.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nIn 2011, she was appointed as the external consultant to the Office of the Accountant-General<\/span><\/a>: National Treasury of South Africa to develop a Communications and Stakeholder Relations Strategy.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nMachebe\u2019s initial training as a teacher at the Giyani College of Education – an institution affiliated the University of Witwatersrand – fuels her passion and flair for presenting complex ideas to professional and other audiences and, has over the years honed her oratory skills.  Determination, willingness to succeed and firmness are some of the values that set this woman apart.  In tough times, this energetic woman will not only stand up just for herself, but she also uses any opportunity to defend the rights of vulnerable persons or groups especially those who are subjected to all manner of discrimination – of course, this energy frequently makes her unpopular for her strong viewpoints on certain issues.  This unnerved individual is not afraid to roll with the punches. Admittedly, she is currently focusing on buffing up a good balance of diplomacy and clarity in her discourse – as this is an important skill if one wants to build beneficially robust and lasting relationships.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nHer noticeably unquenchable thirst for learning, combined with a vast experience in the field of Public Communications; and complemented by her tremendous interpersonal skills and assertiveness convince her that she will eventually achieve her goal of advising the Office of the President. Her long-standing ambition is to facilitate international socio-political dialogues; hence Machebe has a strategically diverse and intentionally assorted network of eminent persons and institutions as well as friends not only in South Africa but also in Bhutan, Canada, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Scotland, London, USA and Zimbabwe. This network is mostly kept active by online platforms such as BlackBerry Messenger, Facebook and Skype where religious, cultural and socio-economic issues are passionately discussed.  <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nOutside working hours as a lecturer at Damelin where she lectures Business Management and Public Relations, currently Machebe proudly keeps her hands full by looking after three things: her eight-year old accident-prone daughter Chichi who loves butterflies; her acrobatic bird-chasing Jack Russell named Pinky<\/span><\/a> and the colorful organic vegetable garden in the backyard of her home in Bronkhorstspruit.  Occasionally, nature forces her to rest; and it is only then that she visits a Spa in Midrand or reads a novel by inter alia, Ben Okri or Zakes Mda.  Alternatively, she relaxingly writes an article for her blog<\/span><\/a>, spends a Sunday afternoon with her reverential nephews watching National Geographic<\/i> or having a light yet insightful discussion with a friend on subjects of Belief, Divinity, Faith and Trust, as she anticipates another curve ball: . . . !<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
